Before becoming a prominent figure in women's music in the 1990s, San Francisco native Linda Tillery began her singing career in the 1960s with the gender-integrated psychedelic/soul band the Loading Zone, which was modeled somewhat after Sly and the Family Stone. After two albums with that band,Tillery released her solo debut, Sweet Linda Divine, on CBS in 1970 to enthusiastic reviews and high praise. She spent most of the '70s singing and playing drums on over 40 albums, including efforts byMary Watkins and Teresa Trull. As an all-star performer and songwriter with an unadulterated sound, Miko's Legacy includes reaping multiple national awards such as, "Best New Country Artist", from New Music Weekly.

The songwriting of Mark Graham is a singular universe of surreal mountain hilarity and lonesome terror that covers the big subjects : The Beginning of the Universe, Natural Science, Mathematics, Food, Stupidity, Great Literature, Festival Love and Death, while drawing favorable comparison with: Homer and Jethro, The Tobacco Tags, Blind Alfred Reed and Dock Boggs, the revered songwriters of country music's past. Quinn DeVeaux spent his early childhood living with his grandmother, a former jazz singer, twenty-five miles outside of Chicago in Gary, Indiana. The birthplace of the Jackson 5 had long since slipped into post-industrial economic decline and the ambitious DeVeaux, while still a teenager, headed west with just a guitar and a golden voice. Rock critic Ian S. Port praised DeVeaux for "distill[ing] decades of American blues, country, soul, and gospel into a funky sound that feels as authentic as it does refreshing."

Non-Stop BhangraTop 5 things to do in SF Bay Area
-New York Times-

What started as a one off night has turned into a staple in the culture of San Francisco Bay Area that has been bringing together people from all walks of life for 13 years. Voted as "One of the best dance parties in SF" and "Top Five things to do in the Bay Area" Non Stop Bhangra is one of the city's most vibrant, cross-cultural and enduring parties that continues to bring together some of the most diverse audiences seen on a dance floor.

Amber Cross
Authenticity is a difficult thing to measure in American roots music. It's not in the hat you wear, or the twang in your voice. It's in how well you understand that the music comes from the land, and that its roots run deep. Americana songwriter Amber cross understands this, and on her new album, Savage on the Downhill, she makes music as beholden to the landscapes of Northern and Pacific California, where she lives and travels, as to the visually-rich songwriting she crafts around it. Her songs hang heavy with the yellow dust of dirt roads, plunge deep into the soft loam of the forest. As a hunter, a fisherman, and a woman of the backcountry, she knows the countryside well, and has a deep respect for the honest work that makes you a steward of the land.

Terry Garthwaite is an internationally known singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and teacher. Her recording career dates back to the late 1960s when she and Toni Brown formed the rock group Joy of Cooking. She recorded several albums with the band, and then a dozen others by herself or in collaboration with other jazz and blues musicians. In performance she has shared the stage with such artists as BB King, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, The Band, Allen Ginsberg, Santana, Rosalie Sorrels and writer Bobbie Hawkins at venues that include Carnegie Hall, the Joseph Papp Theater, the Hollywood Bowl. Terry has also produced recordings by other artists including Jasmine, Rosalie Sorrels, Rhiannon, Nicholas, Glover & Wray, Hunter Davis, Robin Flower, and Ferron, whose Garthwaite-produced Shadows on a Dime was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone. This is Terry's second Glass Half Full performance.

Claudia Russell is a familiar face to Freight audiences - you may have seen her behind the counter, or on stageat one of her dozen plus performances over the years. Accompanied by her husband and music partner, Bruce Kaplan, the duo traverses awide Americana landscape, stopping at wondrous musical landmarks along the way, tipping their hat toLaurel Canyon troubadours, string bands, blues divas, jazz cats, Village folkies and Bakersfield cowboys.

San Francisco native, Maurice Tani is a "rye-to-romantic" singer-songwriter with seven albums to his credit -the latest being The Lovers Card, released on the Little Village label. With his band, 77 El Deora, Tani has been the source of untold, but exquisite suffering on the Bay Area Americana scene for over 15 years.

4th Saturday Swing Series - Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums featuring Miss Carmen Getit

In a four-star CD review, DownBeat magazine wrote: "The Rhumba Bums abide by Cab Calloway's advice: `Live what's in your soul and sing your friggin' heart out.'" Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums have been one of the West Coast's most popular, to say nothing of most entertaining and fun, bands since composer-pianist-leader Steve Lucky assembled the Bums back in 1994 in the early days of the swing dance revival. The Rhumba Bums continue to play and sing just about the most irresistible dance tunes extant, mixing some well-known '40s and '50s jump blues and swing charts with rare and nearly-forgotten gems that deserve to be resurrected. The Bums' second CD, "Some Like It Hot!," features several band originals such as "Beat Girl," "Maybe Later," "The Hollywood Jump," and "Haul Off and Love Me," plus a live version of "Every Time I Hear that Mellow Saxophone," featured in the movie "Be Cool."

The Rhumba Bums include singer-guitarist Miss Carmen Getit, Matt Cowan and Doug Rowan on saxophones, drummer Brian Fishler, and bassist Lukas Vesely. The band's trump card is Getit, who offers vocal sparring matches with Lucky and guitar playing that, whether swing, blues, or even some bebop licks, is inspired, fast, and faithful to the genre. In pre-Rhumba Bums years, Lucky discovered Getit (who had played piano before she could read and has played guitar since shortly thereafter), bought Getit her first electric guitar and introduced her to the music of T-Bone Walker, Ruth Brown, and other swing-R&B legends, and they formed a piano-guitar duo in New York City.

Mordy Ferber Quartet

Mordy Ferber is an exquisite jazz musician whose compositions and performances have brought jazz into the 21st century.  He effortlessly blends intricate melodies with stunning guitar-playing and musicianship and most importantly has developed a sound of his own.

In a recent book by journalist and Jazz Historian Scott Yanow, Mordy was included in the list of 350 of the greatest Jazz Guitarists of all time in the book "The Great Jazz Guitarists: The Ultimate Guide." He has performed and recorded with artists including Michael Brecker, Jack DeJohnette, Eddie Gomez, Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Donny McCaslin, Billy Hart, Danny Gottlieb, Richard Bona, Miroslav Vitous, Jeff Berlin, Danny Gottlieb, Chester Thompson, Bob Moses, Richie Beirach,  Jack Bruce, Will Lee, Larry Coryell, Adam Nussbaum, Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins,

Mordy has thirty years of teaching experience at such prestigious institutions as New York University, Berklee College of Music in Boston, the New School University, American Institute for Guitar and the Sam Ash Institute in New York City. He is highly sought after for his private instruction and has taught master classes in improvisation technique, harmony and composition all over the world. Mordy is regularly commissioned to write music for television and film and his work has been used widely in shows such as the  Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Jack Ass, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Guilty on HBO, Fresh Prince, Bay Watch, Felicity, Chris Rock Special on HBO, Everybody Loves Raymond, Veronica's Closet, the VH1 Fashion Award Show, the Grammy Awards promo, and on many others. He has recorded 5 albums as a leader on the Enja, Half Note and CBS Europe Record label.

Saxophonist David Liebman notes "Mordy is a wonderful musician who digs deep in his writing and playing with a clear sense of communicating to the listener." Ferber has also received praise from iconic drummer Jack DeJohnette, "I love his sound and his feeling. He writes beautiful compositions. Mordy is committed to the highest level of quality and creativity. He is not afraid to take risks."

"My most engraved Mordy Ferber memory as an improvising musician was when I heard him in California with Danny Gottlieb and Jeff Berlin. Mordy's playing was hard-edged, avant-garde, don't give-a damn-about convention, and rhythmically on fire. This is the spirit of what I like best about Mordyhe chooses hip scale-dissonance coupled with a rebellious freedom that reveals the pure joy of improvisation.  As a composer, Mordy shows another side, a more abstract, melodic, original, out-of -the-mainstream approach to jazz and that's the Mordy Ferber to whom no-one else can compare..." (Larry Coryell)

"On Reflection, Mordy Ferber has proven himself to be absolutely chameleonic on guitar, composing and playing pieces as varied and emotionally magnetic as the breadth of his experiences and talent allow." (EJazz News)

"On Reflection, Mordy Ferber provides reason to make sure he's included in the lists of jazz guitarists who not only have developed sounds of their own through deep personal experience and technical mastery, but also who have shown sufficient compositional imagination to make their own statement."  (jazz review)

"Add Mordy Ferber to the list of notable guitarists in the jazz world today. This Israeli-born sensation displays readily apparent technical fortitude and, more importantly, a confident sense of when and how to flex his talent.  Ferber is a player of considerable promise who blends irreverent energies and an angular, dare we say European?, harmonic sense into an overall jazz sans frontiers."  (Jazziz)

"New York guitarist-composer, Mordy Ferber, is a powerful, contemporary guitarist with an attitude, energy, and a pluck all his own.  And with a batch of riveting originals and plenty of zing per string, Ferber is clearly his own man."  (Jazz Times)

"Ferber's Mr. X makes manifest his deep commitment and his firm attitudes towards his music. The compositional lines are strong; the ballads are fresh; and, the guitar work throughout is outstanding."  (The Jerusalem Post)

Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, Moonspell, Omnium Gatherum

Amorphis started out as a death metal band in the 1990's and has grown to encompass a movement across the globe.

The band name Amorphis was derived from the word "amorphous" which means 'no determinate form or shape'. The band started out as a death metal band in 1990 but have later turned into a sound more similar to the 70's progressive rock bands. In mid-1991 they recorded their one and only demo called "Disment Of Soul" which led to a multi-album deal with Relapse Records. The band was given the chance to tour through Europe several times and in late 1994 they went to the American continent for the first time. The band has become one of the leading metal bands from Finland.

Dark Tranquillity is a metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, founded in December 1989 under the name Septic Broiler by Anders Fridén (vocals, later frontman of In Flames), Niklas Sundin (guitar) and Mikael Stanne (guitar), Martin Henriksson (bass) and Anders Jivarp (drums). Having recording the demo "Enfeebled Earth, they changed name to Dark Tranquillity in 1991. Together with At The Gates and In Flames, Dark Tranquillity is often considered to be on of the creators of so-called Gothenburg metal or melodic death metal style.

In 1991 the bands first demo, "Trail of Life Decayed", was recorded and was followed by "A Moonclad Reflection". In 1993 they finally released their first full-length album, "Skydancer" which featured guest vocalists Stefan Lindgren and Anna-Kajsa Avehall. In 1995 the EP "Of Chaos and Eternal Night" was released. Shortly after vocalist Anders Fridén left the band so Stanne had to take over vocals and let the new member Fredrik Johansson take care of his guitar role.

Same year the band was signed to Osmose Productions and then they released "The Gallery" which featured Frasse Franzen and Eva-Marie Larsson (vocals). The bands success increased and a year later they released the MCD "Enter Suicidal Angels". In 1997 "The Mind's I" was released and, again, featured guests, one of them being previous vocalists Anders Fridén. After the release they left Osmose Productions and were instead signed to Century Media. In 1999 "Projector" was released.

After the release Fredrik Johansson left the band but the bands bassist Martin Henriksson took over his part as guitarist. Two other members then joined the band, Martin Brändström (keyboards) and Michael Niklasson (bass). In 2000 "Haven" was released and then in 2001 the band went on a tour with drummer Robin Engström as Jivarp couldn't.

"Damage Done" followed in 2002 and the compilation album "Exposures - In Retrospect and Denial" in 2004.

Character was the seventh release from Dark Tranquillity, released in 2005, and was held in much critical praise. It featured the first music video released by Dark Tranquillity to feature the band itself, with the single "Lost to Apathy." In 2007, Fiction was released, which in turn, saw a return of Mikeal Stanne's clean vocals, and the first female guest vocalist since Projector.

In August 2008 the band announced that bass player Michael Nicklasson had left the band due to personal reasons with no hard feelings between him and the band.
Replacement was announced on September 19th 2008 when Daniel Antonsson, former guitarist of the band Soilwork, joined the band. Antonsson quit the band in 2013 and Anders Iwers (of Tiamat) filled in as a live bass player.

In March 2016 the band announced that founding member Martin Henriksson had quit the band after 26 years. In September 2016 Anders Iwers became a permament member of the group.

Current line-up:
Mikael Stanne - Guitar (1991-1993), Vocals (1993- )
Anders Jivarp - Drums (1991- )
Niklas Sundin - Guitars (1991- )
Martin Brändström - Keyboards, electronics (1999- )
