The UC Theatre Taube Family Music Hall presents:
Cock Sparrer are widely considered to be one of the most influential street punk bands in history. British music paper SOUNDS sums it up perfectly in a live review from April 1978:
"Musically and visually, the Cock Sparrer crew are just about as motley and uncouth as its possible for a band to project. Imagine five collectively imageless Cockneys with hair length varying from skinhead to Woody Roller, wearing clothes that looked they pool from the jumble sales, and singing about how East End life is tough but fun...(they)...create a good time sound that occasionally approximates to the original spirit of Slade."
Don't miss Cock Sparrer with Off With Their Heads, The Bodies, and Western Addiction this April!

This is a brand new project I am very excited about. Jake Marmer is a poet who moved here from New York a couple of years ago, and we've played several gigs together, sometimes with Ben Goldberg. He strikes so many good chords with me: funny, allusive, abstract, Jewish, a nod to the Jazz poetry of Ginsberg, Baraka, Creely, and it works on the page and in performance. We began rehearsing with pianist Josh Horowitz a couple of months ago, and it's getting really great. Josh is one of the most gifted and creative and trained (consider those three distinct categories!) musicians I have ever played with. Wow.
The Monkey House is a small dark storefront adorned with a monkey, next door to Phoenix Aerial Art and Pole Dancing Studio, and just a little west of Classy Nails.
8pm to 9pm, Monkey House, 1638 University Ave.
