'Infinite Geste': The French music that Refused to Quit
Barefoot Chamber Concerts ("an enterprise noted for both its quality and informality" - San Francisco Classical Voice) presents really good music in the right acoustic and without the formality of most classical music events. Kids are very welcome if quiet, and admission is free if you're under 18. Snacks are available before, during, and after the concert.
Hallifax & Jeffrey (Peter Hallifax and Julie Jeffrey, viols) join with Andrew Canepa (harpsichord) in "Infinite Geste" a program of dramatic music from the 18th century French court.
The program explores the music and the musical legacy of Marin Marais, the director of chamber music for the court. He himself wrote operas, and even his chamber music is full of the programmatic wildness and gestural abandon that characterizes later French dramatic music. The program also includes parts of a rare arrangement of a Rameau opera for two viols and continuo, and other highly flavored delicacies from the court. There will be snacks.
