Pianists Monica Chew and Jerry Kuderna will present a rare "complete" performance of Bach's Final Masterpiece, "Art of the Fugue" . Bach was putting the final touches on the work when he died in 1750. It is comprised of 19 pieces and will conclude with a chorale arrangement dictated by Bach on his deathbed. He did not specify which instruments should be used, but the Duo version is particularly well suited to bringing out the complex contrapuntal treatment of the many voices. The pianos will be in well-tempered tuning which adds to the vast harmonic worlds explored by the work.
