Berkeley Symphony: Adès & Tchaikovsky

Joana Carneiro conducts.

The second concert of the season opens with Thomas Adès' masterwork Asyla. Commissioned and premiered by the City of Birmingham Orchestra in 1997, Asyla was written when the composer was still in his mid-20s. After intermission, the Orchestra performs one of the best-loved works in the classical music repertoire, Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony, which premiered in October of 1893 and was conducted by the composer only nine days prior to his death. Come early and learn more about these extraordinary pieces during the 7pm pre-concert discussion, hosted by Paul Dresher.
